Nebraska's Edwards Tosses No-Hitter in 9-0 Run-Rule Win over Bradley

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Nebraska P Tatum Edwards hurled a five-inning no-hitter as the Husker softball team posted a 9-0 run-rule win over Bradley on Saturday evening in the fourth game of the Columbia Regional of the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. With the win, Nebraska (41-16) stayed alive to face Kansas immediately following the Huskers-Braves game, while Bradley (27-32) was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

Edwards, who struck out three and walked two in her five innings, notched the second no-hitter of the season and her Husker career. The pitcher also tallied a no-no against Boise State on Feb. 23 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

In addition to stellar pitching, Nebraska blasted four home runs against the Braves, including two from SS Alicia Armstrong. Also adding homers were 2B Hailey Decker and 3B MJ Knighten. The four bombs put the team's 2014 tally to 65, a new program record.

Nebraska jumped out to a quick lead with a four-run top of the first. The second batter of the game, Decker blasted her 10th home run of the season for a 1-0 Husker edge. Knighten then singled in Tatum and Taylor Edwards, who doubled and singled, respectively. The Cornhuskers added another run when CF Kiki Stokes doubled in Knighten for a 4-0 edge.

In the top of the second, Tatum Edwards recorded her second hit of the day, a single up the middle, to bring in Armstrong for a 5-0 Husker lead.

Two more home runs for Nebraska in the top of the fourth from Armstrong and Knighten put the Huskers ahead 8-0. The winning squad added an insurance run in the top of the fifth when Armstrong belted her second homer of the game.
