COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Big 12 Champion Missouri softball team will host NCAA Regional action next weekend at University Field, as announced Sunday evening by the NCAA Divison I Softball Selection Committee. Joining the Tigers in the opening round of action are Indiana, Illinois State and DePaul.
The Tigers claimed the number five overall seed in the tournament and are the top seed in the Regional. This marks the third straight season that Mizzou has hosted the NCAA Regional round of the tournament and the fifth time in program history overall. The Tigers will open play on Friday, May 20 against Illinois State.
Missouri won their second regular season Big 12 title this past weekend after sweeping Iowa State on Saturday to finish the conference season with a 15-3 record. On Sunday, Baylor knocked off Texas by a 2-1 final to give Mizzou the outright championship, as the Longhorns finished at 14-4 during Big 12 play.
Mizzou has won the NCAA Regional title in each of the last three seasons and have won six overall. Last season, the Tigers went 3-0 at the Columbia Regional, rallying back with a walk off win over Creighton in the tournament opener before taking two straight from Illinois to close it out.
Pending television agreements, each game of the NCAA Columbia Regional will be broadcast live and for free at www.mutigers.tv. For more information visit www.ncaa.com and www.mutigers.com.
