BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou softball senior Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa) was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The conference recognition is Thomas' fourth of Missouri's inaugural season in the SEC and the 16th conference honor of her career.

With the recognition, Thomas leads all SEC players in weekly awards this season, as well as distancing herself from the rest of the conference's pitchers, with three league pitchers having two honors apiece.

The two-time All-American Thomas pitched 14.0 innings in two wins at No. 11 LSU, striking out 23 batters over the weekend at a rate of 1.64 strikeouts per inning. She allowed just one batter to reach base by walk in the two victories.

Thomas struck out 13 batters and allowed just two hits in Mizzou's initial 6-1 win (Friday, April 19) of the series before leading the Tigers to a 3-2 victory on Sunday, April 21. She fanned 10 batters and scattered five hits in the afternoon outing.

The two wins at LSU improved Thomas' season record to 17-4, which includes an SEC-best 10 conference wins.

Fans are encouraged to check and the softball team's social media outlets, @MizzouSoftball and Facebook, for updates and information throughout the season.
