The Missouri softball team will take on its final non-conference opponent of the 2006 regular season, No. 23 Southern Illinois, Tuesday, April 18, at 2 p.m. (CST) on University Field. A makeup game from earlier in the season, live stats will be provided by Gametracker at mutigers.com as will live video through Missouri's All-Access.

One of Missouri's final two mid-week games of the season, the Tigers lead the Salukis 14-9 in the all-time series and last met with Southern Illinois in the 2005 NCAA Regional Tournament hosted by Missouri on University Field. In the opening game of the tournament, the Tigers suffered a 3-0 loss to SIU, but quickly rebounded and held off the Salukis, 9-0, in the semifinals to adance to the championship game. Over the past 10 years, Missouri has accumulated a 4-3 record when playing SIU on University Field and current Tiger Head Coach Ty Singleton is 1-2 against the Salukis. Prior to the three games played last season, one in Carbondale and two during the NCAA tournament, the Tigers and Salukis had not played since Missoui's April 28, 2000, 7-2 victory at home.

After dropping a 5-1 loss to Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State on Sunday, the Tigers are looking to turn things around when they take on their ninth ranked opponent of the season. Southern Illinois marks the third Tiger opponent this month ranked among the top-25 in the nation as Missouri opened April with two game series against No. 20 Baylor and No. 1 Texas, Missouri's highest ranked opponent of the season.

Junior outfielder Leanne Bowers and sophomore Jen Bruck both moved up in the Missouri career home run record book with their blasts against Oklahoma State last Friday night. Bruck stands tied for third with 23 and Bowers is currently eighth with 15. Altogether, the Tigers have knocked 34 homers this season, 15 coming at home. Redshirt sophomore stands one crush shy of trying the record, set in 1997 by Tiger standout Mary Babb.

Looking Ahead: A busy week for the Missouri softball team, the Tigers will travel to Kansas for the second game of its Midwest Border Showdown series with the Jayhawks, Wednesday, April 19 at 5 p.m. (CST) in Lawrence, Kan. Upon return to Columbia, the Tigers will prepare for a two-game series with current Big 12 leader and 15th-ranked Texas A&M Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23 in College Station, Texas.
