BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman IF/OF Kelli Schkade (Albany, Texas) earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week recognition, the league office announced Monday, after a standout week at the plate for the 16th-ranked Mizzou Softball team. The award is her first career weekly conference honor, and the first SEC Freshman of the Week award earned by head coach Ehren Earleywine's program.

Schkade had a clutch bat for Mizzou in the sweep-clinching, 7-6 win at No. 20 Auburn on Sunday, April 13, as she launched a solo home run to left center field with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to put her squad up 7-5.

The home run was just one swing of an overall 6-for-16 (.375) week to help Mizzou record a perfect 5-0 record, which included two wins over Western Illinois (April 9) and the road sweep of Auburn (April 11-13). The midweek doubleheader vs. WIU included a superb performance by Schkade, as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with a single, double and triple in the 5-0 nightcap win. The outing was one of Mizzou's latest individual efforts of three-plus hits in a game, with the squad's season total currently at 21. The Tigers had 18 such performances in the entire 2013 season.

Schkade additionally matched her career-best in walks with two in the 8-6 win at No. 20 Auburn on Saturday, April 12, the series-clincher.

Mizzou is back in action in a midweek doubleheader at Iowa on Wednesday, April 16, with 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. start times. The Tigers return home for more SEC action with Ole Miss from Friday, April 18-Saturday April 19. Mizzou and the Rebels play a doubleheader on Friday (5 p.m./7 p.m.), before a 2 p.m. series finale on Saturday.
