Columbia, Mo. - Sophomore softball player Marla Schweisberger (Raytown, Mo.) was named this week's Big 12 Player of the Week as announced today by the Conference office. The weekly honor is the first of Schweisberger's career and the sixth for a Missouri player this season. Schweisberger is the fifth different Tiger to win Big 12 weekly honors in 2009.

The last time a Missouri softball team earned six or more weekly conference accolades came in 1994 when nine players were awarded Big Eight honors.

Schweisberger had a team-high .556 batting average and 1.333 slugging percentage to aid Missouri's 3-0 weekend stance, including a two-game sweep of Oklahoma State. The sophomore hit two home runs and one double against Southern Illinois and OSU, scoring four runs and notching a .667 on base percentage. Against the Cowgirls, her one out, two-run homer drove in Missouri's first of five game-winning runs. On defense, the first baseman tallied 15 putouts with no errors for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Schweisberger and the rest of the 10th-ranked Tigers now sit atop the Big 12 Conference and stand at 8-2 in league games.

Missouri's next outing will be Wednesday, April 15 when the Tigers host Missouri S&T in a midweek doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. (CT) on University Field.
