Columbia, Mo. - Missouri sophomore softball player Megan Christopher (Wright City, Mo.) was named this week's Big 12 Player of the Week as announced today by the league office. The weekly accolade is the first of Christopher's career and the second Player of the Week honor awarded to a Missouri softball player this season.

In all, four Tigers have accrued five Big 12 honors this season, with Rhea Taylor tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 17, Chelsea Thomas crowned Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on March 9 and Stacy Delaney recognized as a two-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Week (March 16 and March 30). The five weekly conference honors ties for the most ever earned by Missouri in Big 12 program history.

Last week, Christopher started all four contests behind the plate and managed a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 21 putouts and one assist. At bat the sophomore averaged .500 on the week with a 4-for-8 showing at the plate. Three of Christopher's four hits resulted in home runs, two against Texas A&M and one against M&I Bank Border Showdown opponent Kansas. In MU's last 10 games, Christopher has homered on six separate occasions. She led the squad with a 1.625 slugging percentage, on base percentage (.636), total bases (13) and home runs (3) on the week, and tied for most runs (4) and RBI (5).

Christopher and her teammates will host Southern Illinois in a midweek game Wednesday, April 8, beginning at 3 p.m. (CT) on University Field. Fans wearing pink to the first-ever Strike Out Cancer game will gain free entrance to the afternoon contest and donations will be accepted on behalf of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
