Tiger Softball Player Jen Bruck Named Big 12 Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. -Missouri senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) became the third Tiger of the 2008 campaign to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors as announced today by the Conference office. Her third career honor and first of the season, Bruck last received recognition for her work May 2, 2006. In addition, Bruck becomes the first Missouri softball player to earn three Big 12 Player of the Week honors. Previously, the most Big 12 Player of the Week honors any Tiger player held was two.

Joining freshman Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) and junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) as Tigers named Big 12 Players of the Week, Bruck turned in an impressive performance at the plate in Missouri's four-game showing in the state of Texas. Missouri becomes the first Big 12 school to earn three conference Player of the Week honors. Bruck hit at a .500 clip (6-for-12) last week in Missouri's four games in the state of Texas. Four of the senior's six hits were home runs, with three coming against Texas A&M's Megan Gibson. Bruck recorded back-to-back home runs off Gibson in game two against the Aggies and recorded the Tiger's sole run in game one of the weekend series. Bruck stands atop the Missouri career home run record book with 46, 13 coming this season, including four in her last four games. The St. Peters, Mo., native tallied a team-high 19 bases and recorded a 1.583 slugging percentage last week. The Missouri softball team will return to action Wednesday, April 2 in a doubleheader against Drake beginning at 3 p.m. (CT) on University Field. Game two is slated to begin at 5 p.m. (CT).
