COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri sophomore pitcher Chelsea Thomas was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, as announced today by the league office.  This is the first time this season that a Tiger softball player has won a Big 12 weekly award, and is the second career honor for Thomas.

Thomas went 3-0 on the weekend, which includes wins against No. 4 Michigan and No. 18 UL-Lafayette. The right-hander struck out 26 batters and walked just one on her way to a tournament ERA of 2.67. She threw two complete games over the weekend, beating Michigan 2-1 in eight innings and ULL 11-6.  She also earned the win against Radford, as she pitched six innings of relief while fanning seven and walking none. Thomas’ lone walk of the tournament came in the second inning against Michigan.  Since then, she has posted 19 straight walkless innings.  The sophomore was named the NFCA Leadoff Classic Most Valuable Pitcher for her performances.

Thomas and the Tigers will be back in action this weekend, as the team hosts Saint Louis, SEMO, UMKC and Missouri State for the Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament.  Action gets underway on Friday.  Stay tuned to mutigers.com for more information.
