OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Mizzou softball's Jenna Marston (St. Louis, Mo.) has been selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate softball. An acronym for "Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School", the Senior CLASS Award recognizes senior student-athletes for achievement in four areas - community, classroom, character and competition.

Marston has been a standout on the diamond and in the classroom for the Tigers. After spending her first two years at shortstop and earning First Team All-Big 12 recognition as a freshman and sophomore, Marston made the transition to becoming Mizzou's starting catcher as a junior in 2012. Marston batted .295 at her new position en route to Second Team All-Big 12 recognition last season. She set a single-season school record with 46 walks, which were the third-most in the Big 12, while her 0.77 walks per game average was 22nd-highest in the nation.

Off the field, Marston has been just as productive, with CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America recognition as a junior in 2012. She has twice earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, also receiving the award as a sophomore in 2011. Marston was a two-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree. Marston is one of six Senior CLASS Award candidates who earned CoSIDA's Academic All-America honors last season.

The group of candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in March through voting by a national media committee. The 10 remaining student-athletes will then be placed on an official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. The winner of the 2013 Senior CLASS Award will be announced during the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. (May 30-June 5).
