COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou softball team swept a double-header in its final day of fall action, defeating Crowder College, 18-2, and Heartland College, 10-2. The double-header wraps up fall action for the Tigers, who finish with a 7-1 mark in eight games.
Mizzou rode the bats in an 18-2 win over Crowder College in the first game of the day. Four different Tigers had at least three RBI, highlighted by a five-RBI, two-homer game by senior catcher Rachel Hay, who had a grand slam in the first inning. She homered again (a solo shot) and added a double in the fifth and a walk in the sixth as she went 3-for-3 with four runs. Third baseman Nicole Hudson drove in five runs as well with a double and a three-run homer. Left fielder Kelsi Jones also homered in the win as she went 3-for-4 with three runs and three driven in. Sarah Moore also drove in three runs in the win.
Lindsey Muller threw 5.2 innings for the Tigers, earning the win. She allowed just four hits and struck out four with just one walk and threw 69 pitches. Kelsea Roth pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing a hit and two runs (only one earned run) as the Tigers ran away with game one.
Carlie Rose was the hero of the second game as she lifted a three-run homer to left field, putting the Tigers on top, 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mizzou put two more runners on base and nearly scored them, but Hudson's liner to left was caught to keep the score close through four innings. The Tigers then tacked on seven more runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead and take control of the game.
