Columbia, Mo. - Senior softball players Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) and Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) scored Missouri's lone runs of the game, solo home runs, in 10th-ranked Missouri's 4-2 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma. Currently on a three game losing streak, the Tigers are now 41-8 on the year and 11-5 in Big 12 play, while the Sooners improve to 37-13 and retain their lead in the Conference.
Freshman Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa) threw her 11th complete game of the year and was saddled with the loss, her fourth of the campaign. Through seven innings, Thomas allowed four runs, three earned, but forced 11 groundouts in her first complete game since her March 14 outing against North Carolina.
Oklahoma hung up runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings. The Tigers managed six hits off of OU pitcher D.J. Mathis, but were unable to capitalize on plays, stranding eight players on base, four of which were in scoring position. Ubrun, now with a .746 slugging percentage, went yard in the fourth. Batting leadoff, Ubrun's 13th home run of the campaign marked the fifth straight game in which the Missouri third baseman has hit a home run.
Minner broke a nine game drought in which she failed to hit a homer, with her sixth inning, two out blast to right field. Both Ubrun's and Minner's home runs went against a strong southern wind with Oklahoma outfielders just barely getting a glove on the ball before it fell over the fence.
Missouri will close out its regular season with a two-game weekend series against Big 12 North opponent Nebraska. Game one will begin Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m. (CT) on University Field while the final home game of the campaign will start at Noon, Sunday, May 3. Make plans to arrive early for Sunday's game as the Tigers will recognize their senior class prior to the Noon first pitch.
