Missouri Softball Team Holds Off Houston

Houston, Texas - Playing the second game of a midweek series against Houston, the 13th-ranked Missouri softball team held on for a 4-2 win over the Cougars improving to 28-4 on the year and 4-0 all time against Houston.

Freshman pitcher Kristin Nottelmann (Fenton, Mo.) threw a six inning no hitter before allowing two doubles and two earned runs in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Jana Hainey (Peculiar, Mo.) entered the game in relief, allowing a single before striking out Casey Willow for the final out of the game. Nottelmann improves to 7-0 on the season.

The Tigers put up four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead over Houston. Third baseman Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) reached base on balls and stole second putting herself in scoring position for the first time of the game. After Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) reached base on balls, freshman Ashley Fleming (Silex, Mo.) knocked a single to left field allowing Ubrun time to advance to third and reach home safely on a fielding error by Cougar outfielder Katy Beth Sherman. With runners on first and second and two outs on the board, catcher Megan Christopher (Wright City, Mo.) powered her second home run of the campaign deep over the centerfield fence for three RBI.

Allen connected on a pitch from Lindsey Olson in the top of the second for Missouri's first base hit of the game. Together, the Tigers combined for five hits, while Houston's pitching staff allowed six walks throughout the seven inning game.

The Tigers are set to resume action on Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m. (CT) against Big 12 opponent Baylor. The two game series will conclude Sunday, March 29 at Noon. This marks Missouri's second Conference opponent of the season. Missouri is 1-1 in league play after splitting last weekend's series with Texas.
