COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 5 Mizzou claimed its second Top 10 victory of the season and first-ever Southeastern Conference win with a two-run home run from sophomore 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.) in the bottom of the seventh inning. The moon shot pushed the Tigers past No. 7 Texas A&M, 2-0, at University Field on Friday.

The fifth home run of the season for Roth closed a strong one-hitter pitching performance from senior Chelsea Thomas (Pleastantville, Iowa). The two-time All-American threw the complete game (7.0) and struck out 11 Aggie batters for the win (4-0).

The Tigers improved to 10-1 (1-0 SEC) with the win, while Texas A&M dropped to 22-2 with the loss. Head coach Ehren Earleywine improved his Mizzou win total to 298 with the result.

Junior utility player Mackenzie Sykes (Blue Springs, Mo.) nearly ended it for the Tigers with a line drive off the wall down the left field line for a double with two outs in the seventh. She trotted home ahead of Roth after the game-winner sailed over the left center field wall.

Texas A&M came closest to adding runs in the top of the sixth inning with two base runners and two outs. Aggie catcher Nicole Morgan flew out to deep right field to end the threat and keep the 0-0 score.

Senior catcher Jenna Marston (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded Mizzou's first base knock with a single to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs.

Aggie pitcher Mel Dumezich (15-1) took the loss for the visiting squad after yielding three hits and surrendering the two earned runs.

Mizzou returns to action with the second game of the Texas A&M series on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at University Field. Live coverage will be provided to Mizzou Network subscribers.
