Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team used home runs by junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) and freshman Kathryn Poet (Tujunga, Calif.) to take an 8-2 win over Central Michigan in the second game of the University of South Florida (USF) Under Armour Invitational played at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. Missouri improves to 17-6 on the season, while the Chippewas are now 6-6. Sophomore lefty Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) collected her seventh win of the year after throwing five complete innings. Striking out two batters, Hainey forced eight fly outs and five groundouts during her time in the circle. Both of Central Michigan's runs, which came on a two run home run in the top of the first inning, were credited to Hainey. Missouri senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) entered the game in the sixth inning and struck out five of the 10 batters she faced. Missouri erased Central Michigan's two run lead in the bottom of the first inning scoring three runs on five hits. Adding to their run total, Missouri jumped to a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth with three Tigers scoring on Ubrun's shot to left center. Ubrun's homer was her second of the day, the eighth the season and marked the fourth consecutive game in which the Tiger hit a yard ball. The Missouri junior now owns a .773 slugging percentage and holds the second highest batting average (.348) of her teammates. Poet's leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth inning marked Missouri's final run of the game. Hitting the ball deep over the wall in left center, Poet rounded the bases for Missouri's eighth run. Missouri will take on Long Island University, Friday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m. (CT) followed by a 5:30 p.m. (CT) game against Team USA.
