SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 8/7 Mizzou softball team blasted its way to a 2-0 record to start the 2013 season at UCSB's Gaucho Classic at Campus Diamond on Friday. The Tigers sent out eight home runs in their first two games of the season, including five home runs in the initial 11-3 win over the Gauchos (5-1 overall) to match the program's all-time best. Senior 3B Nicole Hudson (Webb City, Mo.) and sophomore 1B Kelsea Roth (Yoba Linda, Calif.) highlighted the day for the Mizzou offense, with both Tigers belting three home runs over the two games.

The Tigers kept the hitting up into the second game, powering to a 4-0 victory over Fresno State (6-2 overall) behind the pitching of two-time All-American Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa). The redshirt senior (1-0) threw 7.0 innings and struck out nine Bulldogs, yielding just two hits.

Seventh-year head coach Ehren Earleywine improved to 6-1 in season openers at Mizzou with the squad's defeat of the Gauchos. The Tigers are now 29-8 all-time in the first game of the season.

Mizzou's bats were tuned in for the squad's season-opener against host UCSB, with the squad knocking around seven total extra base hits in the win. Hudson accounted for two long balls, batting 3-for-3 in the game with an additional single. The senior's second home run of the game was a three-run blast in the third inning.

Sophomore 3B Angela Randazzo (Poway, Calif.), Roth and senior catcher Rachel Hay (Kansas City, Mo.) also notched home runs against the Gauchos, with Randazzo immediately following Hudson's first blast by going yard in the second inning. Roth and Hay launched their home runs out of the park during Mizzou's six-run fifth inning. Randazzo finished 2-for-2 in the game, also smacking a double.

Sophomore Bailey Erwin (Claremore, Okla.) picked up the win (1-0), pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts while allowing eight hits and three earned runs. The Tigers scored six hits off UCSB starter Shelby Wisdom before notching another seven hits off Gaucho Andriana Collins.
