COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 7 Missouri softball team hosted their 2011 Black and Gold intersquad game on Saturday afternoon in the Devine Pavilion, with the Black team coming out on top by a 6-2 final in the nine inning exhibition.

Junior Kristin Nottelmann earned the win for the Tigers, pitching five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out one. Redshirt sophomore Chelsea Thomas took the loss, giving up five runs, two earned, in five innings as she struck out four.
The Black team put up an unearned run in the bottom of the first, with sophomore Jenna Marston doubling with two outs and scoring on a fielding error off the bat of Nicole Hudson. The Black squad increased their lead to 2-0 after three, when junior Rhea Taylor laid down a bunt single and came all the way around to score after a throwing error sailed into the right field corner.
In the fourth, Abby Vock kicked off a two-out rally for the Black team with a double into left center, and she scored when Taylor followed with a single. After stealing second, Taylor advanced to third on an error by the third baseman and came around to score on a Marston single.
Vock drove home a run in the bottom of the fifth with her second double of the day, plating Ashley Fleming who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. The Black team increased their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth when senior Catherine Lee hit an opposite field solo home run to lead off the frame.
The Gold team got on the board in the top of the seventh when Vock, who took over at second base for the Gold squad in the sixth inning, blasted a solo home run to left-center. In the ninth, sophomore Ashlie Ortega homered for the Gold team, making the score 6-2.
Vock finished the day with three hits in five at bats, scoring two runs and driving home two. Marston also finished 3-for-5, as she plated a run and scored one of her own. Taylor had two hits and scored twice.
Missouri kicks off their season next Friday, Feb. 18 with a doubleheader against Fresno State and No. 12 Cal at the San Diego Classic I tournament. The Tigers take on Fresno State at 1:30 p.m. CT and Cal at 4 p.m. CT. Stay tuned to mutigers.com for more information.
