COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Softball fans were treated to an offensive showcase during the program's annual Black & Gold Game on Saturday inside the Dan Devine Pavilion, with the Black squad claiming an 8-7 victory. The winning portion of head coach Ehren Earleywine's squad was powered by five home runs during the 10-inning exhibition, including three long balls from freshman C Kirsten Mack (4-for-6, 5 RBI).

Freshmen pitchers Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.) and Casey Stangel (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) earned starts in the circle for the Black and Gold squads, respectively, with Finucane earning the win after throwing 7.0 innings, striking out five and surrendering only one run.

The Black squad took a 1-0 lead that they would never yield in the bottom of the first inning after junior 3B/C Angela Randazzo (Poway, Calif.) grounded in sophomore 2B/OF Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) from third base. The Black team's next four runs would come from three home runs. Mack (Riverside, Calif.) hit her first blast in the bottom of the third, scoring junior 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.), who singled to left field. Senior OF Mackenzie Sykes (Blue Springs, Mo.) got into the long ball action in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a solo shot to center field. Mack followed with her own solo bomb later in the fifth.

Mack's third home run was of the two-run variety in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Randazzo who had singled to left field. Randazzo caught the home run bug in the eighth inning, launcing a missile to center field to set the score at 8-1 in the Black team's favor.

The Gold squad got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when a double by redshirt sophomore C Alyssa Cousins (Carrolltown, Texas) was singled in by redshirt sophomore OF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.). The Gold side got its own home run from freshman 3B/2B Natalie Fleming (Silex, Mo.) in the top of the ninth to make it 8-3, Black. The shot also scored freshman IF/OF Kelli Schkade (Albany, Texas), who singled ahead of Fleming.

Earleywine's Gold team plated four more in the top of the 10th to tighten the game, with redshirt sophomore C/OF Carlie Rose (Nixa, Mo.), Cousins, junior IF Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Schkade all scoring. The flurry of runs would not be enough to catch the Black team, setting the final score of 8-7 in a game played before more than 300 fans.
