2005: Making an appearance in 25 games, Joanne Loethen moved to 10th on the Missouri career putouts list with 682 to her credit. Loethen tied the previous 10th-place mark, set in 1983, during Missouri's NCAA Regional tournament game against Robert Morris, May 21 at home in Columbia. Playing first base in Missouri's second game of the day, Loethen earned putout number 682 in the Tiger's 9-0 shutout of No. 22 Southern Illinois. Earlier in the season, Loethen scored Missouri's sixth and final run in the Tiger's 6-3 victory over No. 10 Florida State, Feb. 12, at the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. Loethen was impressive with her team leadership role coming off the bench and on the practice field. Honors: Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll
2004: As a sophomore, Loethen made her first start of the season in Missouri's season-opener against Appalachian State on Feb. 6, at the Gator Invitational. Throughout the course of the campaign, Loethen proved effective on both offense and defense, recording 26 hits in 42 games and 249 putouts (13 assists). Loethen had 11 putouts in MU's game against Oregon on March 21. Her .989 fielding percentage helped the Tigers to the best mark in the Big 12 (.971) and 16th best in the nation. On April 24, Loethen tied her second highest putout total 10 in MU's game against Texas A&M in College Station. The left-handed batter hit her first of three doubles on the season March 14 against then No. 1 Arizona in Tucson. Boosting Missouri to within one run of the Wildcats, Loethen scored on a single by A.J. White, MU's final run of the 3-2 loss. With 11 hits in nine consecutive games, Loethen held the longest hitting streak for the team beginning March 22, against Oregon State and ending April 3. Loethen had four two-hit games (Oregon, Portland State, Oklahoma State and Mississippi Valley State). Opening Big 12 Tournament play against Oklahoma State on May 13, Loethen slammed her fourth and final double of the season leading off the second inning. Loethen closed the season on May 21, against Mississippi Valley State at the NCAA Regional tournament with two hits in three at bats. For her efforts in the classroom, Loethen was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Academic All-American in the fall 2004. 2003: Starting at first base for Missouri in every game of the 2003 season, Joanne Loethen tallied 11 RBI. Second on the team with 10 doubles, Loethen was 6-for-10 in stolen bases on the season and had a seven-game, six-game hitting streak and two four-game hitting streaks. Loethen had 12 multi-hit games with at least one hit in 29 of Missouri's 49 games. Two-for-three with one RBI against Kentucky on Feb. 15, and against Penn State on Feb. 16, Loethen went 2-for-2, with a run scored against Western Illinois on Feb. 22, and had two hits and scored a run in each of the two games against Pittsburg State on March 12. Four days later, Loethen was 2-for-4 against Houston and was 3-for-5 with two RBI in the second game of the Southeast Missouri State doubleheader on April 8. Playing against Big 12 competitor Baylor in Waco, Texas on April 18, Loethen was 2-for-4 scoring one run on Missouri's way to a 5-2 win. Before joining the Tigers in the fall of 2002, Loethen played for the Columbia Rattlers under head coach Gary Ennis. Honors: All-Big 12 Second Team
Helias High School: Loethen was named to All-State (2002), All-Conference (2000-01-02) and All-District (2000-01-02) teams after playing softball for four years for head coach Dan Campbell. A senior in 2002, Loethen helped guide the Helias High School Crusaders to a second place Missouri State finish. A member of the National Honor Society, Loethen was named to the Helias Honor Roll.
Personal: The daughter of Tom and Carolyn Loethen, Joanne was born Aug. 31, 1983, in St. Thomas Mo. The youngest of three children, Loethen has an older brother T.J. (26) and one sister Anne (23). Loethen is a nutrition and fitness major.
