Columbia, Mo. - Tiger senior midfielder Bree Thornton (Lake View Terrace, Calif.) was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 Division's second team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The award is the first Academic All-District honor of Thornton's career.
Thornton has played a key role for the Tigers this season, having notched five goals and three assists while starting all of the team's 19 games. Thornton was recognized for her play earlier this season, when she was awarded Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. Thornton scored three goals and added an assist in games against Northern Iowa and Oklahoma State on the weekend of Sept. 25.
To be eligible for academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Thornton and the Tigers will round out their regular season schedule this Friday, Oct. 30, with a match at Kansas at 3 p.m.
