COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou soccer defender Candace Johnson (Dallas, Texas) was selected to play for the Panamanian Women's National Team at next week's Central American Football (UNCAF) Copa Centroamericana. The two group winners out of the Copa Centroamerica, which will be played in Guatemala City, Guatemala, will advance to October's Women's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Panama will play in Group A with Belize, host Guatemala and Honduras, while Costa Rica, El Salvador and Nacaragua will play in Group B. Johnson and her squad open against Guatemala on Tuesday, May 20, then face Belize on Thursday, May 22 and Honduras on May 24.

The two group winners will advance to the Women's CONCACAF Gold Cup in October. The top three teams at the Gold Cup will automatically qualify for the 2015 Women's World Cup, while the fourth-place team will earn a chance to qualify as well.

Johnson and her teammates are busy training in Panama in preparation for the tournament. The team played two scrimmages with Costa Rica earlier in the week, with Johnson playing all 90 minutes and tallying a goal in the second match. The squad will travel to Guatemala on Sunday.
