ROTC Training Garners Media Attention

April 25, 2012

The Columbia Daily Tribune's Steve Walentik joined the Tigers at ROTC leadership training last week.

"The sun was just beginning to creep over the horizon Thursday as the young women, dressed in camouflage T-shirts, completed their short jog through the cool spring air around Stankowski Field.

They were not part of an unusually large crop of female cadets in Missouri's ROTC battalion, as the rare driver passing on Maryland Avenue at that early hour might have suspected, but rather members of MU's soccer team, donning a different uniform while taking part in a team-building and leadership course supervised by officers from the military training program.

Last week's was the second of three sessions that wrested the players out of bed at an hour normally only seen during in-season training sessions and out-of-season weight training. The last will take place this Thursday."
