COLUMBIA, Mo. - Junior goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore posted her sixth shutout of the season as the No. 24 Missouri soccer team blanked Texas Tech 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium. With the shutout, Dittamore set a new single-season record, besting the old mark of five she held with three other former Tigers.
Mizzou improves to 8-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Big 12 Conference play while the Red Raiders fall to 6-5-1 and 1-4-0.
For the second consecutive game, the Tigers got on the board early. After dribbling up the right sideline, junior Bree Thornton laced a perfect cross into the box. Stationed nine-yards in front of the yet, junior Michelle Collins placed a diving header past Red Raider goalkeeper Tina Rincon for a 1-0 Mizzou advantage in the 16th minute. The goal was the third of the season for Collins.
Missouri nearly upped its lead in the 33rd minute when freshman Candace Ruff fired a shot from just inside the left corner of the box on goal but Rincon held tough to make the save.
Classmates Kristin Andrighetto and Collins combined to put the Tigers up 2-0 in the 75th minute. Collins threaded a pass from outside the top of the box to Andrighetto, who took one touch from near the left post and knocked a low shot to the near post and into the net. The tally was the fourth in as many games for Andrighetto, who now leads the team with five goals and 11 points on the year.
Texas Tech's Brittany Harrison broke through the Mizzou defense one minute later and was one-on-one with Dittamore as she dribbled in the box but the Tiger goalie came off her line and made a diving stop on Harrison's shot to preserve the shutout.
The Tiger defense allowed only three shots by the Red Raiders as Mizzou posted a 16-3 shot advantage.
Mizzou hits the road next weekend for a pair on conference contests against Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 10 and Oklahoma State on Sunday, Oct. 12.
