COLUMBIA, Mo. - Sophomore Alysha Bonnick notched a hat trick to propel the University of Missouri soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Illinois State in its second and final exhibition game on Sunday morning at Walton Stadium.

Bonnick scored her first goal of the match just 16 seconds into the second half on a pass from sophomore Krista Kruse (Fort Collins, Colo. / Poudre) to put the Tigers up 3-0.

In the 59th minute, junior Kristin Andrighetto (Pleasant Hill, Calif. / Carondelet) lofted a ball from the goal line to the far post. Stationed in front of the goal mouth, Bonnick easily headed the ball into the back of the net for a 4-0 Mizzou lead.

With only 14 seconds remaining in the game, Bonnick completed her hat trick when she headed home her third goal of the game after junior Bree Thornton (Lake View Terrace, Calif. / Los Angeles Baptist) served a pass into the box.

Mizzou dominated early play but could not find the back of the net until senior Kat Tarr (Vancouver, Wash. / Columbia River) got the Tigers on the board first in the 25th minute. She converted a penalty kick after Bonnick was brought down in the box by an Illinois State defender.

Missouri upped its lead to 2-0 when freshman Kendra Collins (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley) broke toward goal, got behind the Illinois State defense and blasted a 16-yard shot past the Redbird goalie in the 36th minute. The Tigers entered halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

The Tigers outshot Illinois State 18-3 in the game, including 11-0 in shots on goal. In its two preseason games, Missouri posted a 50-8 shot advantage.

Mizzou officially opens the 2008 season against No. 19 Illinois in a 6:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Walton Stadium.
