Student Manager David Smith is in his fourth season with the Mizzou soccer team. A native of Independence, Mo., the senior is pursing a bachelor's degree in communication.

Smith is a 2001 graduate of Truman High School (Mo.) where he was a two-year starter and varsity captain for the Truman men's team. An avid soccer enthusiast, Smith has worked for the Major League Soccer team the Kansas City Wizards for eight years. His duties include game production, equipment management and working directly with players and members of the Wizard coaching staff.

In addition to his duties with the Tiger soccer program, Smith is also involved with the Campus Crusade for Christ and Athlete's Bible Study here on the Missouri campus. He also participated in a study abroad program at MU where he studied French culture and literature in Paris during the summer of 2002.

Smith is the son of Paul and Sara Smith.

10 members of the University of Missouri women's soccer team were given Big 12 All-Academic team honors, the conference announced on Tuesday. Among those 10, seven were named to the conference's All-Academic first team.

Coming off the first Big 12 regular season title in program history, the University of Missouri women's soccer team looks to continue its run into the postseason as they await an at-large bid into the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The field of 64 teams, 30 of which are filled by automatic berths, will be announced Monday, live on ESPNews during the 7 p.m. broadcast.

The University of Missouri soccer team (12-5-3, 7-1-2) travels to San Antonio, Texas, for the 2009 Big 12 Championship. The No. 1 seed Tigers open action with No. 8 Kansas (12-7-2, 4-6-0) on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. Missouri earns a rematch of Friday's 3-2 road loss to the Jayhawks after Kansas squeaked past Texas Tech in the play-in game with a shootout after a 1-1 double-overtime tie Monday evening.

The University of Missouri women's soccer team (12-5-3, 7-1-2) suffered their first loss of conference play in their regular season finale on Friday, dropping a 3-2 decision on the road against rival Kansas (12-7-1, 4-6-0). The defeat snaps a 10-game unbeaten streak as the Tigers now enter postseason play as the No. 1 seed in next week's Big 12 Tournament, courtesy of their finish atop the Big 12 regular season standings.

Thornton Named to Academic All-District 7 Second Team

Tiger senior midfielder Bree Thornton (Lake View Terrace, Calif.) was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 Division's second team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The award is the first Academic All-District honor of Thornton's career.
