Straatmann and the Tiger open the 2008 season in less than a month

Liz Straatmann's Diary - Dec. 17, 2007

Dec. 17, 2007

Our Black and Gold Intra-squad has ended and we are on to the next, very crucial part of our season. This past week was finals week for the University of Missouri students. Studying took priority over gymnastics, but the girls still made it into the gym to practice. The coaches announced that they would be in the gym from 11 to 4 and we could come in whenever we weren't studying or taking finals. The assignments in the gym were a little easier and focus was on corrections and little details.

Through the past few weeks we have been buying gifts for a family that we adopted. The team was very generous and really tried to make this Christmas special for a less fortunate family. On Monday, the gifts were wrapped in the gym by the girls and are to be distributed to the family members on Christmas.

During finals week, we used the gym as an outlet from studying. Everybody had a lot to do to finish up the semester, so stress levels were rather high. When we were in the gym, the focus was on gymnastics and that's it. I think it helped relieve some stress and relax our minds a bit. All in all, everybody finished up the week successfully in school and in the gym. It is a huge relief to be done with school now for 5 weeks and just concentrate on gym.

Most of the team traveled home this weekend to see their families and enjoy the holidays. Some girls chose to stay and workout at Mizzou before heading home. This should be a good time to get some rest and heal some minor, on-going injuries. We will be back in the gym on the 27th of December with high energy and strong work ethic. Not to mention, we will also be having some fun!
