Ostad to Join 2009-10 Team

Norwegian gymnast, Sandra Ostad, will join the Tigers after break.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri gymnastics Head Coach Rob Drass announced that Sandra Ostad of Oslo, Norway, will join the 2009-2010 team after the holiday break. The 19-year-old will bring a load of talent to the squad especially on uneven bars and balance beam. Ostad was the Norwegian National Champion on bars and beam in both 2007 and 2008. Most recently, she won the bars title at the 2009 Northern European Championships.

"We are extremely excited for Sandra to join our team," Drass said. "We feel fortunate that she is coming here to Mizzou. I think her international experience will really help us achieve our team goals."

Ostad is expected to officially join the team when pre-season practice resumes at the end of the month.

Shire Finishes Second on Floor

GAINSEVILLE, Fla. - Senior four-time All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) competed in the event finals on vault and floor of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships. Shire finished tied for second on floor and fifth on vault ending her collegiate gymnastics career and leaving as the most decorated gymnast in Missouri history.

GAINSEVILLE, Fla. - Senior All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo) has been named one of the four finalists for the 2009-2010 Gymnastics Honda Sports Award for the top collegiate gymnast. Shire was selected by the NACGC/W coaches as one of the four nominees along with Susan Jackson of LSU, Carly Janiga of Stanford and Brandi Personett of Penn State.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -The Missouri Tigers fought hard throughout the NCAA National Championship semifinal but were not able to finish in the top three to advance to Super Six. The team scored a 194.600 to finish sixth in the evening session. Senior All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) earned All-American first team honors on vault (9.925) and floor (9.900) and second team honors on bars to become Missouri's first four-time All-American.
