Alex Gold's Journal Entry - Nov. 25th, 2007
Nov. 26, 2007
Having not been home for more than three months, I was very happy to go home and see my family and friends for Thanksgiving break. I was shocked to see that the weather had not changed much since I left; it was 75 degrees! As soon as I landed, my parents took me to Texas Stadium to watch my high school football team play in a state playoff game (they won!). My sister, Laura, was marching in the band and was excited to see me as well. We went out to eat afterwards, which was nice. Because I don't have my car at school, I rarely get to go out to eat and it was a nice change from eating at Dobbs dining hall.
On Monday and Tuesday, I went to my club gym -- it was great to see all of my friends and coaches. It seemed like I hadn't seen them in forever! On Wednesday night, two of my teammates celebrated receiving scholarships to Division I schools (Arkansas and OU), so I went in to congratulate them at their signing party. It was nice getting to celebrate with them. It seems so weird that I was in their position a year ago.
Thanksgiving dinner was at our house this year, and our house was pretty full. We had lots of family over and enjoyed a great dinner while we watched the Dallas Cowboys play their annual Thanksgiving Day game. It actually snowed a little in parts of Dallas/Ft. Worth, but it didn't stick.
On Friday, my mom and sister got up at six and went shopping. They asked me if I wanted to go, but I declined; sleep was more important to me. I went out later that day, however, and picked out a few Christmas presents. I also got some winter clothes as well -- it gets much colder in Columbia than it does in Plano. I flew back Saturday morning and got back in Columbia around 6:30, just in time to watch the Missouri vs. KU game on TV! What an exciting game. I can't believe that Missouri football is now ranked #1 in the country!
Go Tigers!
Sunday, instead of having weights, we went into the gym and had practice. It was nice getting back into the swing of things. Practice went great; everyone looked well rested and it showed in everyone's performance. The team looks great and we are all looking forward to our Black and Gold meet on December 8th!
