COLUMBIA, Mo.-The Mizzou Women's Gymnastics program have added four Tigers to the team for the 2014-15 season, the coaching staff announced today. Becca Schugel, Shauna Miller, Kelli Martin, and Kennedi Harris have officially announced their intent to join the Mizzou Gymnastics program next season. The four new student-athletes set to join the Mizzou family in Columbia, Mo. will bring an exciting set of skills and abilities, as the Tigers continue to compete in the competitive Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Becca Schugel / Eagan, Minn. / Classic Gymnastics
Schugel will join the Tigers, after competing with Classic Gymnastics in Channhassen, Minn. under coach Bryon Hough. For the past eight years, she has competed as a Level 10 and has included an array of impressive accomplishments. Schugel's highlight of the 2013 season came when she accumulated a 37.85 all-around score at the Northern Lights meet, which included scores of 9.5 on both vault and bars. "We are so excited to have Becca joining us next season," said Missouri head coach Shannon Welker. "She has so much experience and success competing in the Junior Olympic program. Her ability and bright personality will certainly help Mizzou do great things in the future!"
Kelli Martin / St. Louis, Mo. / Team Central Gymnastic Academy
Martin comes to Mizzou from Parkway North High School, where she competed for Team Central Gymnastic Academy in St. Louis, Mo. Since 2007, Martin has collected various titles at the State and Regional Championships. Her accolades included being named 2008 Region floor exercise Champion, 2010 State Champion on balance beam and placed 5th all-around at Regionals. "Kelli is from the St. Louis area, and we always enjoy having talented student-athletes from our region here in Missouri," said Welker. "She brings a high level of training, and ability to our program."
Kennedi Harris / Atlanta, Ga. / Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta
Harris resides in Atlanta, Ga., where she attends Milton High School. Currently competing at Level 10 with the Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta, Harris provides the Tigers Gymnastics program with a talented and experienced gymnast. Under coaches Jacobo Giron and Elena Pankratova, Harris has excelled during the 2013 season. Her high scores this past season included a 9.650 mark in vault, 9.475 in bars, 9.3 on the beam, 9.625 on the floor, and a 37.2 score in the all-around. Harris particularly shined at the 2013 Georgia State meet, where she posted a 37.2 all-around score and posted her season best 9.475 score on the bars. "Watch out for this young lady!" said Welker. "Kennedi has so much power and potential. She will surely amaze our fans! She is a bright young lady that will be an important factor in our future success here at Mizzou Gymnastics."
Shauna Miller / Knoxville, Tenn. / Tataru's Gymnastics and Tumbling
Under the guidance of coaches Daniela Milsaps and Daniel Tarca, Miller has successfully competed at Level 10 with Tataru's Gymnastics and Tumbling club in Knoxville. At the Sand Dollar meet this past January, she posted her best all-around score of 37.675. Earlier in the month, Miller posted another impressive performance at the Atlanta Crown meet, where she finished with a season best vault (9.700) and bars (9.625) scores. Miller will head to Columbia, Mo. after attending Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tenn. "Shauna will be a great addition for the Tigers," said Welker. "Her gymnastics abilities are so technically sound, and I think she will impress a lot of people starting next season for Mizzou!"
