COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gymnastics and Golden Girls Practice Facility on Friday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m. The 30-minute program will include words from Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden, Representatives from The Konrath Group, Missouri Gymnastics head coach Rob Drass, Golden Girls Director Shannon Fry and current members of both the Mizzou Gymnastics and Golden Girls teams.

The 5.625 million dollar practice facility is the result of funding through private donations to the Mizzou Athletic Department. Ellerbe Becket Architects worked in conjunction with the University of Missouri to develop a state-of-the-art facility for the two teams to use. The practice facility is on schedule for completion in August of 2011. The Konrath Group will oversee the construction process.

The facility will total 25,000 square feet with 14,500 square feet dedicated to a gymnastics practice area and 3,000 square feet for the Golden Girls' dance floor. The building will house offices for gymnastics and Golden Girls' staff, a lounge area for each squad, a training room, a cardio exercise area and storage areas as well as two locker room and shower facilities.

Media interested in attending the groundbreaking ceremony should contact Jenny Dewar in the Mizzou Athletic Media Relations office for more information.
