Seven Tigers Earn National Academic Honors

Columbia, Mo. - For the seventh consecutive season, the Missouri gymnastics squad has been recognized as a National Association of Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches (NACGC/W) Academic Team registering a 3.2529 team grade-point-average. In addition to the team honors, seven Tigers earned National Scholar Athlete honors, given to athletes who earn a 3.50 GPA or higher during the full academic year, or maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

Among the Tigers earning the honors from the NACGC/W, Alicia Gilmore (St. Charles, Mo./All-American Gymnastics) was named a Scholar Athlete for the fourth consecutive season with a 3.60 GPA. Julie Abaray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Queen City Gymnastics) and Amanda Pezzullo (Wheaton, Ill./ Illinois Gymnastics Institute) earned the honor for the third consecutive season. Abaray earned a 3.75 GPA as a broadcast journalism major, while Pezzullo finished with a 3.79 GPA in nutrition and fitness.

Other Tigers earning Scholar Athlete accolades are Brooke Boehmer (Overland Park, Kan./Eagle Gymnastics and Dance Center), Lisa Puccio (Kirkwood, Mo./Gym Quarters), Liz Straatmann (Washington, Mo./GAGE) and Becky Scholle (Chesterfield, Mo./Gym Quarters).

The Tigers ranked 33rd nationally and finished behind only Iowa State in the Big 12 Conference. For head coach Rob Drass, since taking over the program eight seasons ago, he has seen 34 of his athletes land on the NACGC/W list proving the dedication to success in the classroom.
