GAINSEVILLE, Fla. – Senior All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo) has been named one of the four finalists for the 2009-2010 Gymnastics Honda Sports Award for the top collegiate gymnast. Shire was selected by the NACGC/W coaches as one of the four nominees along with Susan Jackson of LSU, Carly Janiga of Stanford and Brandi Personett of Penn State.

The winner after nationwide balloting will become the candidate for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. In addition to the honor of this selection, American Honda will donate $1,000 to the women’s athletic fund of each nominee’s university. The winner’s program will receive $5,000.

Shire competed with the rest of the Missouri gymnastics team in the semifinals of NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships where she earned All-America honors on vault, bars and floor making her a four-time All-American. Her scores on vault (9.925) and floor (9.900) in the semifinals qualified her to compete in the finals on the two events this evening (Saturday, April 24).
