Gymnastics Headed to NCAA West Regional

April 2, 2007

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 18 Missouri gymnastics team will travel to Berkeley, Calif., as the third seed for the NCAA West Regional at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas Pavilion on Saturday, April 14 at 6 p.m. PDT (8 p.m. CDT). The Tigers will face No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Utah, Washington, Sacramento State and host California.

For the second year in a row, Mizzou will start the meet on a bye before heading to floor in its second rotation. The Tigers then move to vault, have a bye in the fourth rotation, and finish competition on bars and beam, respectively.

Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions.

The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors not on an advancing team from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 26-28, hosted by the University of Utah. Event winners at the regional championships will also advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or are not all-around qualifiers.

Sophomore Adrianne Perry qualified for last year's NCAA Championships as an all-around competitor and narrowly missed All-America honors on beam after finishing ninth in the event's first session. Perry will enter the West Regional as the nation's 10th-ranked all-around competitor and is tied for 14th on vault, 30th on beam and 33rd on floor.

Last season, Mizzou fell just short of its quest for its first NCAA Championships appearance with a third-place finish at the Southeasst Regional behind eventual National Champion Georgia and Nebraska.
