Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Gymnastics will close out the regular season in Tucson, Ariz. this weekend with a competition against the University of Arizona.
Last Time Out
Mizzou Gymnastics put up a 194.125 score on Senior Night at the Hearnes Center on Friday. The meet was the final home competition for seniors Tori Howard, Sandra Ostad and Brittany Bendoff and junior Taylor Medrea. Medrea closed her home season on a high note, setting a new career high of 9.775 on the balance beam and matching her personal best on floor with a 9.800. Howard finished off the meet with a career high 9.900 score on floor as well. Mackenzie McGill also set a few career high scores at the meet including a 9.850 on bars and a 9.850 on beam.
Ranked at No. 18 in the country this week, the Arizona Wildcats will see Missouri after a 197.875-196.125 loss to Oklahoma. Arizona's Aubree Cristello leads the team in the All-Around this season. She is ranked No. 14 in the country with an average of 39.278. Freshman Shelby Edwards has been recognized by the Pac-12 Conference twice this season with the league's Freshman/Newcomer of the Week award. Edwards clocks in at No. 40 in the nation on the balance beam averaging a 9.810 score.
History vs. Arizona
Missouri and Arizona have met 24 times in program history, and the Tigers hold a 5-16 record against the Wildcats in the regular season. The two teams last met in 2005 at the Arizona Invitational. Missouri placed third in the meet with a 191.700. Arizona posted a 193.350 score.
Sophomore All-American Rachel Updike currently checks in at No. 18 in the nation on the vault with a 9.892 average score. She also ranks 52nd on the beam averaging a 9.803 score.
Missouri's win over TWU at the Air Force Quad Meet marks Missouri Gymnastics' 360th win in the regular season.
This year's Beauty and the Beast brought in the 10th largest crowd in Missouri history, and the largest crowd for a Beauty and the Beast event ever. The Tigers hosted 6,486 fans for the event.
Sophomore Rachel Updike has never scored below a 9.750 on the vault. She has scored above a 9.825 in all but one meet over the past two seasons.
Senior Tori Howard has made an appearance in every meet of her career except one. She did not perform against Centenary in her freshman season.
Howard is averaging a 9.789 score on the vault this season, never scoring below a 9.725. In fact, she has consistently scored a 9.700 or above in her last 12 meets dating back to March 16, 2012.
Mizzou will close out the regular season at Arizona this weekend. The Tigers continue with the SEC Cham¬pionships on March 23.
