COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Big 12 Conference has named senior All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the fifth time this season. Shire now holds the conference record for the most Gymnast of the Week honors at 12.
Shire helped No. 18 Missouri (8-2) to a season-high 196.875 win against Illinois State (5-4) on Friday, Feb. 26. The senior captured her sixth all-around title of the season with a new school-record 39.725. Her 19th career all-around crown was marked by individual wins on vault (9.900), bars (9.900) and beam (9.950) and a tie for the floor (9.975) title. Shire’s scores on beam and floor marked new career-highs on both events, while her floor score tied the Missouri program record.
The Tiger gymnastics team will go on the road this weekend to face in-state competition Southeast Missouri State in a tri-meet that includes Alaska-Anchorage. The March 7 contest is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
