No. 13 Tigers host No. 6 Sooners in Pivotal Big 12 Showdown
Feb. 20, 2008
Columbia, Mo. - Riding a three match winning streak, the Tigers enter what is undoubtedly their biggest home meet thus far as they welcome the sixth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners to the Hearnes Center on Friday. The meet will get underway at 6:30 with doors opening at 5:30. Fans are encouraged to get to the meet early to pack the house for the Tigers first televised meet of the 2008 season.
The Tigers enter Friday's meet having won their previous three meets, toppling UIC, Centenary and SEMO in consecutive weeks. The Tigers only loss has come to perennial power and Big 12 rival Nebraska, in Lincoln, putting their record at 5-1. With a win over the Sooners on Friday, Mizzou would improve to 6-1, the programs best start since 1992, when they started 7-1.
Junior Adrianne Perry (Columbia, Mo.) is coming off of one of her best meets of the season at SEMO and will look to carry that momentum into Friday's meet. Perry won the all-around title, notching a 39.250, her second highest all-around score of the season.
The Tigers will also be looking to sophomore Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) to carry much of the load on Friday. Shire has 15 event titles on the season, and the reigning Big 12 Gymnast of the Week will look to add to that total this Friday. Her 15 event titles ranks her second in the Big 12 Conference, ahead of nine-time All-American, Emily Parsons of Nebraska. Shire also enters the meet ranked eighth on floor and 19th on vault.
Along with Perry and Shire, senior Ashley Khederian (Carlisle, Mass.) is having her best season as a Tiger. Khederian is the only Tiger to compete in the all-around in every meet in 2008 and currently ranks 18th in the nation. Khederian will once again be expected in the all-around and likely put up big scores for the Tigers.
The meet will be televised on four different TV outlets, Fox Sports Midwest, KOMU, the CW and Metro Sports in Kansas City, Mo. Times are listed below.
