Last weekend went well for the Mizzou Gymnastics team. We traveled to Iowa to compete against the Cyclones for our third away meet of the season. I have to say that the meet was a success even though we did not beat our opponents. Our team score was a 195.025, which is a really good away score.
We started off on bars, which were AMAZING! The first six girls up hit their routines solid and with confidence. We definitely looked aggressive on bars and everyone went for at least one complete handstand in their routine. The hype and energy we had on bars was great too. Oh yes, and after the first rotation we were ahead of the cyclones!
We moved on to vault next which also went very well. Everyone made their vault and we had some pretty good landings. After the vault rotation we were still ahead of the cyclones which was very exciting.
After vault, we moved on to floor. Our energy level was still very high and we were ready to show that off in our routines. We had a couple mistakes on the floor but overall it went pretty well.
Last event was beam. Beam is always the hardest event to hit flawlessly because you are so nervous. Like on the other three events you can convert your nervousness into aggression and go all out while on the balance beam you can be aggressive but at the same time you have to try to convert that nervousness into a calm which is very difficult to do. Beam was probably our worst event of the evening but it was not bad by any means. We are such a strong beam team and that is definitely the event where we could potentially score the highest but we just have not quite done that yet, but we will!
The Iowa meet was a lot of fun. We went there with a mission to get a good away score and have a good time while doing it and we definitely accomplished that. I am really looking forward to our Beauty and the Beast meet, which takes place next Friday.
GO TIGERS!!!
