Feb. 4, 2008
Columbia, Mo. - After posting 195.400 against Illinois-Chicago on Friday, the 2008 Tiger Gymnastics squad has moved up to 14th in the nation, averaging a score of 194.774. Junior Adrianne Perry (Columbia, Mo.) is ranked among the nations elite in the all-around. After sitting out on vault in the first meet against Bowling Green, Perry has been averaging a 39.267, placing her 15th in the nation and third in the South Central region.
The Tigers also feature a handful or gymnasts in the national rankings. Aside from Perry, the Tigers have two gymnasts ranked in the all-around. Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) ranks 33rd while senior Ashley Khederian (Carlisle, Mass.) ranks 52nd. Shire, on the heels of tallying a 9.850 on floor against UIC, now ranks 12th in the nation, averaging a 9.875. Shire also ranks 21st in the nation on vault.
After putting up a 49.000 or better on beam in the last two meets, the Tigers have catapulted to No. 9 in the nation on beam, an event that plagued Mizzou in 2007. The Tigers are averaging a 48.762 on beam and seem to improve in every meet.
The Tigers will be at home this Friday as they take on Centenary College in the Second Annual W.G. Grinders Beauty and the Beast. The event will feature both the Tiger Gymnastics and Wrestling squads competing simultaneously on the same floor. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children, or free with two canned food items.
