Last Thursday was an exciting and long day for the Mizzou gymnasts. It was the day before our second away meet of the year, against Oklahoma and Central Michigan, and we all anxiously awaited the competition. But before we could get to the meet on Friday, we had to make it through a long Thursday.

We met at the Hearnes Center around noon to load the bus. Some of the girls headed to the back of the bus and made themselves comfortable on the leather couch, while some fell asleep in the beds. Before we even left the Hearnes Center, we were already watching Grey's Anatomy, Season 2. This kept us occupied until we arrived in Wichita, Kan., where we ate at Carrabba's. Our food was served as soon as we sat down, a luxury that we freshmen are not used to. Finally, three hours later we arrived at our hotel for the night. After a slight mix-up with the rooms, we all headed off to bed because Friday was going to be an important day.

Friday morning we had breakfast at nine and then had a team meeting. Rob (Drass, head coach) went over the lineups for each event and our schedule for the rest of the day. We went shopping for a few hours that afternoon and a lot of the girls bought some things. After the mall we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the meet. For lunch we ate at a restaurant called Charleston's, which was delicious, and then headed over to the competition.

We arrived at the meet a little early so we played some games while we waited for timed warm-ups to start. My favorite was the dancing game where we all stood in a circle and took turns going in to the middle to dance. I know all of the girls would agree that Rob easily won for his impressive break dancing and spin on the ground to a stunning finish! Our team definitely has the most fun at meets out of all of the teams because we are always laughing and having a good time.

Timed warm-ups went very well, and after a few slight adjustments, we were ready to compete. We all felt confident after warm-ups and just wanted to go show everyone how strong a team we are. During the meet we only focused on our team and supported everyone through every routine. Although we had a few falls we made improvements from last weekend and definitely had many strong points. We finished second, behind OU and ahead of Central Michigan, but placements are not important to us because we focus on executing our routines perfectly and then the scores will take care of themselves. Our goal for the next meet is to put all of the strong hit routines together.

After the meet we loaded the bus to drive back to Columbia over night. After enjoying Jason's Deli, we watched the meet on the TV in the back of the bus before everyone went to sleep. After a long bus ride home, we arrived in Columbia at 5 a.m.

Our season has just begun, and we have potential this year to be one of the best teams in the country. Our next competition is Friday, Jan. 26, against Nebraska at home. So come support your Mizzou Tigers because it should be an exciting and close competition!

GO TIGERS!!
