Freshman Danielle Guider takes fans through the Tigers' first home meet of the season -- the Pink Out.
Unfortunately we couldn't stay in Cancun forever but when we came back we had our game faces on. Although we didn't get back to Columbia until about 3 a.m., we had practice at 2 p.m. on Monday. When we got back into the gym everyone came ready to work. We worked on fixing some of our problem areas from Cancun so we would be ready to go when it came time for our first home meet that weekend.
For the most part Monday was a day for bars and beam. Then Tuesday came along and it was a floor day. That means we did floor, beam and bars. On beam we had a team assignment and on bars and floor we had routines. On Wednesday we had a vault day. So we did routines on every event except floor. Finally it was Thursday, which means we get to practice in the arena where we compete. This is so we get used to the equipment. We use this day to just get in anything else you need for the meet the next day. It's not necessarily a hard and long workout. We like to try and get in, get in what we need and get out with the confidence we need for the next day.
Well it was finally Friday!!! Our first home meet was here, and I'm sure it was very exciting for all of the freshman. Becky (Scholle) and I both got up and had our hair done by Lisa (Puccio), it came out very cute!! This meet in particular is a special meet for us. We call it the Pink Out. It supports breast cancer and $1 from every ticket sold goes toward research. Also, the first 500 fans get a free Pink Out t-shirt, which were very cute.
Unfortunately when we got up that morning the weather wasn't the greatest. There was freezing rain and sleet everywhere, which was not fun. Luckily my parents, grandma, coach and her daughter made their flight here, which was a great surprise for me. But bad weather meant not a lot of people could make it but we knew that the fans that did come must be our die hard fans, so we were going to show them a great meet. This meet was against the University of Illinois. When we got there we were ready to go. If there were any problems in warm-ups we made adjustments and when it came time for the meet, we were ready.
Warm-ups were now over and so we went to the locker room to get ready for the meet. It was so exciting waiting to march out at home for the first time. Finally it was time and we marched out. We brought lots of excitement and confidence out with us. The fans that were there were excited to be there. When the competition started we were ready to go. For the most part we had a great meet.
We had some minor errors but nothing major. A win was a great way for us to start out our first home meet. All in all Pink Out was a great success and now we just have to go back into the gym and work hard to get ready for our next meet which is against the University of Oklahoma. Hopefully some fans can make it there but if not our next home meet is January 26th against the University of Nebraska. These should be some great meets so come and see the Mizzou gymnasts for yourself!! GO TIGERS!!!!!!
