Meet Notes vs. Southern Utah
- The Tigers head to Cedar City, Utah, this weekend for a competition against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. The meet marks the first road competition for the Tigers this season. Last Time Out
The Tigers opened the 2012 season with a home meet against No. 24 Iowa State. Mizzou squeeked out a win, topping the Cyclones 192.675-192.600. Iowa State's Michelle Browning took home the all-around title and Mary Burke placed second, but freshman Rachel Updike took the titles in vault, beam and floor. Mary Burke took home the bars title for the Tigers.
The Tigers lead the series with Southern Utah 2-0. Missouri hosted the Thunderbirds in the Hearnes Center in 2011, finishing the meet with a 194.925 to Southern Utah's 193.750. Missouri took all four event titles, and Southern Utah's Ariel Lamb won the all-around. The two teams first met in 1999 in Norman, Okla. The Tigers posted a 192.150 to take second at the meet. Oklahoma took first with a 193.325 and Southern Utah scored 191.425.
Scouting Southern Utah
Southern Utah will open its 2012 season with Missouri. The Thunderbirds were ranked No. 30 in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll, and finished sixth at the 2011 NCAA Corvallis Regional.
Missouri will host its annual Pink Out meet on Jan. 20 against No. 20 Denver. Mizzou Gymnastics is teaming up with the University of Missouri Health Care Ellis Fischel Cancer Center to support breast cancer awareness and research by donating one dollar of every ticket sale to the cancer center. The first 500 fans to arrive at the Hearnes Center will receive a free Pink Out t-shirt. The team will also honor several breast cancer survivors at the beginning of the meet. The survivors will serve as celebrity judges for the event.
Missouri looks to stay undefeated against the Thunderbirds this weekend. The Tigers are 2-0 on the series. .
The Tigers' victory over Iowa State on Sunday (Jan. 8) marks the Tigers' first victory over a ranked opponent this season. .

Freshman Rachel Updike started the season on a high note, she was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the Conference and she was honored by CollegeSports360 on their Primetime Performers Honor Roll. .
With six newcomers on this year's squad, the Tigers look to bring a fresh approach to Mizzou Gymnastics. New Assistant Coach, Jennifer Green, is also a reason to expect big things from the Tigers in 2012. .
