Senior Alex Gold finshes her career at Mizzou today at the NCAA Regional Championship.

Norman, Okla. - The 2011 NCAA Regional Championship brought Missouri to a familiar setting in the Lloyd Noble Center. The Tigers competed in the arena earlier in the season when Missouri faced Oklahoma in a Big 12 match-up. Missouri recorded a team total of 194.175 to finish in sixth place. The Oklahoma Sooners took the Championship title with a final teams core of 197.350. Utah came in at No 2 with a 196.450 and Washington placed third (195.300). North Carolina (195.225) and New Hampshire (194.500) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Junior Mary Burke notched a 39.175 all-around score that put her in a tie for fourth place.
Mizzou started off the 2011 NCAA Regional meet with a bye in the first rotation. This proved to be beneficial for the Tigers who moved onto bars in the second rotation. Senior Alex Gold (Plano, Texas) stepped up and took the lead-off spot for Missouri. She posted a 9.550 and was followed up by Lauren Swankoski (Chadds Ford, Pa.), who recorded a season-high 9.800. Sandra Ostad (Oslo, Norway) matched her season-high score of 9.775 for the third time this season and Taylor Medrea (Britton, Mich.) recorded a 9.725. Mary Burke (Inverness, Ill.) hit her routine and posted a 9.800, while Allie Heizelman (Cypress, Texas) closed out the rotation with a strong 9.800 as well. Missouri hit a team score of 48.900 on bars, which is the team's second-highest bars score on the season. The Tigers hit a season-high 48.925 on bars at the Pink Out meet against Illinois.
With a few bobbles on the beam, Mizzou posted a team total of 47.525 on the event. Tori Howard (Chesterfield, Mo.) led off the rotation with a 9.025, and she was followed by Swankoski who posted a 9.600. Freshman Cathryn Aliceaacosta (Houston, Texas) put up a 9.600 as well, and Gold scored 8.850. Heizelman recorded a 9.500 and Burke notched a 9.800 score. After the third rotation Mizzou had a running total of 96.475.
Missouri got a break after beam with a bye during the fourth rotation. In the fifth rotation Mizzou headed to floor, a strong event for the team. Medrea set the rotation off on a good foot by putting up a career-high score of 9.750 on her floor routine. Her previous personal best was a 9.725, which she recorded in an exhibition routine at Missouri's quad meet. Howard followed, recording a 9.650 and Gold put up a 9.800. Swankoski kept the momentum going for the Tigers with a 9.850 followed by a 9.750 from Burke and 9.675 score from Heizelman. Swankoski's score set her up to finish in a six-way tie for sixth place on the event. MU posted a 48.875 on floor to bring the team total to 145.350.
The sixth and final rotation saw the Tigers on vault. The team kept its head in the game, and Howard led-off with a 9.700 followed by Ostad and Swankoski who both put up scores of 9.750. Burke put up a score of 9.825 on vault to bring her all-around total to 39.175. Gold posted a 9.850 on her vault to bring her all-around total to 37.900. The score also put her in a five-way tie for fifth place in the vault event finals. Swankoski notched a 39.000 all-around total. The Tigers posted a 48.875 on the apparatus to bring the team score to 194.175.
The NCAA National Championship will be held April 15-17 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
