March 3, 2007
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After starting slowly, the No. 19 Missouri gymnastics team finished strong on bars and beam to claim first place against host Pittsburgh and Central Michigan with a 195.750. Pittsburgh took second place with a 194.725 and Central Michigan notched a 192.600 to take third. Sophomore Adrianne Perry claimed the all-around crown with a 39.425 and tied for the bars and floor titles.
"I thought we did a good job on all four events," Missouri Head Coach Rob Drass said. "We had a fall on floor and on vault but by the time we got to bars we just let loose. Ali (Gilmore) ignited the team with her bar performance. That was really the turning point of the meet for us."
Mizzou opened the meet on floor and started slowly on their strongest event with a 48.600. Perry led the way with a 9.825, followed by senior Amanda Pezzullo with a 9.750.
In the second rotation, the Tigers recorded a 48.750 on vault, highlighted by Perry's 9.850 on the event for a second place finish. Pezzullo was not far behind with a 9.775 and junior Ashley Khederian posted a 9.750.
Missouri broke out on bars and scored a 49.250 to post its highest total on any event this season. Senior Alicia Gilmore, sophomore Alicia Hatcher and Perry all notched 9.875s to tie for first place honors. The score set career highs for all three gymnasts and upped Gilmore's personal mark by over a tenth of a point. Also impressing on the event was junior Julie Abaray with a 9.825 and freshman Becky Scholle with a 9.800.
The Tigers return to the Hearnes Center for their final regular season meet on Friday, March 9 to face Iowa at 7 p.m. Following the meet, Mizzou will honor the 2007 seniors, Whitney Crater, Alicia Gilmore and Amanda Pezzullo, for their contributions to the Missouri gymnastics program.
