COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 17 ranked Missouri Tigers scored a season high Friday night winning The Callaway Bank Cat Classic with a 196.075. Eastern Michigan placed second with a 191.775, followed by Bowling Green with a 190.650 and William and Mary placing third with 187.700. Junior Julie Abaray won two event titles while setting a new career high on the balance beam. Sophomore Adrianne Perry won another vault title, tied for first on floor and placed second in the all-around competition.
"I think we got most of the big things right and most of the little things right," said Head Coach Rob Drass. "This is the way the team should be able to perform week in and week out. If we continue to do this for the rest of the season we should be able to move up in the rankings."
Beginning on what has been a solid event for the Tigers, the squad earned their highest score of the season with a 49.025 on the vault. Perry won the event with a 9.850 and tied for second were seniors Whitney Crater and Amanda Pezzullo with a 9.825.
After a slight struggle on the uneven bars, the Tigers pulled through with a 48.825. Junior Julie Abaray kept her hot streak going, winning this event with a score of 9.825. Junior Ashley Khederian tied her career high on this apparatus with a 9.80 as she tied for second. In the exhibition spot, senior Alicia Gilmore scored her career high with a 9.775.
The Tigers hit a season high on the balance beam, an event that has plagued the team thus far this season, with a 49.175. The apparatus was highlighted by Julie Abaray's career high of 9.925 and Adrianne Perry's tied career high of a 9.875. Pezzullo finished in fourth with a 9.850.
The Tigers rocked the floor exercise earning a 49.05. The event was highlighted by Pezzullo and Perry, who tied for first earning a score of 9.850. Abaray recorded a 9.825 to claim third place.
The individual event finals will take place tomorrow, February 24th at 7 pm as the top ten finishers on each event compete for top honors. Mizzou then travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday, March 3 for a meet with host Pittsburgh and Central Michigan at 6 p.m. CT.
