Rachel Updike earned her first event titles of the season on Sunday as Missouri Gymnastics placed third in the Air Force Quad Meet. The Tigers finished with a team score of 193.000. UC Davis took the meet with a 193.325, followed by Air Force who scored 193.225. TWU finished fourth with a 191.400 score. Updike recorded a 9.850 score on her beam routine to take the event title, she also placed first on the uneven bars with a 9.825 score.
With four teams competing in the meet, Missouri started the day on the floor exercise. Freshman Miranda Eubank competed on the floor for the first time in her career, anchoring the lineup with a 9.625 score. Junior Taylor Medrea kicked things off on the event with a 9.625 score on her routine. Cathryn Aliceaacosta followed her, scoring a 9.450 for her performance. Sandra Ostad also contributed to the team total with a 9.600 on her routine. The Tigers put up a 47.375 on the floor in the first rotation.
Moving back to the top of the Olympic order, Mizzou continued on to the vault where the team posted a 48.675 score. Sophomore Laura Kappler scored a career-high 9.650 as the first competitor for the Tigers. Ostad went next in the lineup, scoring a 9.725 on the event. Eubank and Howard posted scores of 9.725 on the event as well. The score stands as a new career-high for Eubank, who previously set her personal best of 9.675 at Florida. Updike closed out the rotation with a 9.850 score on vault, the mark earned her second place on the event as well.
Updike continued her winning ways, grabbing the uneven bars title at the meet with a 9.825 score. Eubank took second on the event with a career-high 9.775 on her bar routine. Ostad led off the rotation with a 9.60 score on the bars, and Kappler put up a 9.675. Junior Mackenzie McGill scored a 9.650 on the event, and Medrea rounded out the lineup with a 9.675 score. The Tigers finished the third rotation with a team score of 48.600 on the uneven bars, going into the final rotation with a team total of 144.750
Finishing the meet on the balance beam, the Tigers earned a team score of 48.250 on the event for an all-around total of 193.400. Updike earned her second event title of the night with a 9.850 on the balance beam, and Howard tied for second with a 9.825. Kappler retained her lead-off spot in the lineup at the meet, putting up a 9.725 to start the Tigers on the right foot. Aliceaacosta contributed a 9.700 to the team total, and freshman Rachel Henderson put up a 9.150 in her second-career beam routine.
Missouri will return to Columbia on Feb. 1 for the annual Beauty and the Beast meet. Mizzou gymnastics will host the Auburn Tigers, while the Mizzou Wrestling team will host Oklahoma State.
