Sophomore Adrianne Perry sets two personal bests

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 22 Missouri gymnastics team scored a team season high and posted season bests on two events but fell to No. 7 Nebraska 196.800-195.000 on Friday night at the Hearnes Center. The meet was highlighted by two personal bests from sophomore Adrianne Perry and another from junior Julie Abaray.

"I'm proud of how the team came out and performed tonight," Missouri Head Coach Rob Drass said. "There were a few missteps but overall it was a great meet for us. We're still working on putting together a full meet but this was definitely a steppingstone for that."

Mizzou started strong in its first rotation as the squad posted a season-high 48.950 on vault. Perry was awarded a 9.925 to set a new personal best and take second on the event. Seniors Whitney Crater and Amanda Pezzullo both scored 9.800s and junior Nikki Bowman had a 9.750 to tie her career-high.

The Tigers notched a 48.725 on bars in the next rotation to set the team's season-high on their second consecutive event. Missouri was led by classmates Perry and Alicia Hatcher, who scored a 9.825 apiece to tie for third place, while freshman Becky Scholle scored a 9.750 for a new career-high.

Missouri suffered two falls on beam but still posted a 48.475 thanks to several stellar routines. Pezzullo impressed on beam for the second week in a row as the senior tied for second place with a 9.875 and Abaray posted a 9.800 to tie for fifth.

In the fourth and final rotation, Perry knocked out her second career-high of the meet with a 9.900 on floor to take second place honors and led Mizzou to a 48.850 on the event. Also notching a personal best on the event was Abaray, who tied for fourth with a 9.850, while Pezzullo posted a 9.825.

The Tigers finish their Big 12 Conference regular season competition at No. 9 Iowa State in Ames, Iowa on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. Mizzou then returns to the Hearnes Center to host the first annual Beauty and the Beast meet with the No. 2 Missouri wrestling team on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. The gymnastics squad will face Southeast Missouri State while the wrestlers compete against Northern Iowa simultaneously.
