COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou Gymnastics team opened the season on Friday against two-time defending National Champion Alabama in the Hearnes Center. The meet was the annual Pink Out meet, with proceeds from ticket sales going to benefit the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. A crowd of 5,760 came out to support the Tigers in their home opener, marking the largest Pink Out crowd in Mizzou History. The number ranks 15th on Missouri's all-time attendance list, and is the third largest non-Cat Classic crowd in history.

The Crimson Tide took the meet with a score of 196.540 to the Tigers' 192.025. Missouri started out on the vault with a team score of 48.625, led by returning All-American Rachel Updike who put up a 9.875. Seniors Sandra Ostad and Tori Howard earned scores of 9.750 on the event as well.

The Tigers continued on the bars, putting up a 47.450 team total. Alabama recorded scores of 49.050 on the bars and 49.175 on the vault making it 98.225-96.075 in their favor after the second rotation.

Updike again led the Tigers on the balance beam, recording a consistent 9.850 on her routine. As the lead off competitor, sophomore Laura Kappler performed a graceful routine, scoring a 9.725.

The Tigers shone on the floor exercise, exhibiting energetic, fun routines. Junior Katelyn Trevino hit her routine for a 9.800 score, and Howard followed her lead recording a 9.825. Ostad was the last competitor for Mizzou, recording a 9.750 on her floor routine.
