The Missouri women's golf team has signed three high school standouts to National Letters of Intent. The trio of Kate Gallagher from Savannah, Mo., Taylor Gohn from Columbus, Ind. and Ari Savich from Carmel, Ind. will join the Tigers in the fall of 2010.
"All three of our signees have a great opportunity next fall," MU Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We lose some serious firepower with our top two golfers, Julia Potter and Michelle Morgan, finishing their eligibility this spring. Ari, Kate, and Taylor will all bring something to the team next year and they can help us continue to improve in the Big 12 and at the national level. They certainly model our three core values already, and that is just a bonus to their ability to play golf at a high level."
Kate Gallagher
Kate Gallagher qualified for the Missouri Class 1 State tournament all four years while attending Savannah High School. She won the Missouri State title in her sophomore year and was the runner-up in her junior and seniors seasons. She holds all of Savannah's school records, including low-nine hole score (31) and low-18 hole score (70).
Gallagher won the 2009 Missouri Women's Golf Association Girls State Junior Championship and finishing fourth in 2008. She was named to the Midwest Section PGA Student-Athlete team in 2007 and was a member of the National Honors Society.
"Kate is a highly decorated student-athlete from Missouri," Priesmeyer said. "She is by far one of our best overall athletes that we have signed since Denise Knaebel from Moberly and current Tiger, Michelle Morgan. She excels in golf, volleyball, basketball and soccer. Kate is also a tremendous student. She ranks in the top-five percent of her class and has already been awarded a Bright Flight and Curator Scholarship from Mizzou. We know Kate will step on campus next fall and be ready to compete in the top-five for our team. We have been watching Kate compete in the Missouri Girls Junior since she was 12-years-old. We knew she was going to be a special player and we are so excited she chose to stay in Missouri and carry the black and gold golf bag!"
Taylor Gohn
Taylor Gohn was a three-time All-State First Team selection at Columbus North High School. She was a State finalist all four years of high school, finishing sixth as a sophomore, fourth as a junior and second in her senior year. Gohn was a four-time All-Conference honoree and two-time Conference and Sectional medalist. She holds the school record for nine holes (33), 18 holes (68) and low season average (75).
Gohn was the 2009 Indiana Girls State Junior Champion and placed fifth in the Indiana Women's State Amateur in 2009. She was also an Honor Roll Student and was awarded the Bartholomew County Youth Leadership Award for 2009-2010.
Ari Savich was a four-time All-Conference and All-County selection for Carmel (Ind.) High School. She claimed the Regional, Sectional and Conference Championship in her junior and senior seasons and was an All-State selection both years. She finished fifth at the 2009 State Finals and took 20th place at State in 2008.
Ari Savich
Savich finished fifth in this year's PGA Callaway event at Stone Creek Golf Club and last year she placed fourth at the PGA Callaway tournament at Penn State.
"We are keeping in tune with our Indiana connection by signing Taylor Gohn, from Columbus, Ind. and Ari Savich from Carmel, Ind.," Priesmeyer said. "These two seniors have competed at a very high level in their state and at the national level. We are really excited about the improvements that Taylor has made over the last few years and she had a tremendous desire to be a Tiger. Taylor has also proven to be mentally tough under competition and according to her high school coach she is the hardest working athlete he's ever been around. Qualities like that made it very easy to recruit a player like Taylor to Mizzou. Ari is a very strong, athletic golfer that will be able to come on campus next year and be ready to compete for a spot. She has incredible potential and we are excited to help her reach her goals."
