Mizzou freshman golfer Julia Potter has been named the Indiana Junior Golf Program Player of the Year, as announced by the Indiana Golf Foundation. Potter, a standout at Penn High School in Indiana, earned the award based on her merits as repeat Girls State Junior Champion, State Age Group Champion, Westfield Junior PGA Champion and a top-20 finish at the National Junior PGA Tournament, and a runner-up at the Indiana State Amateur Championship.
Potter is the first junior girl in Indiana state history to have achieved Player of the Year status in all three levels of Indiana junior competition, beginning with the Aquafina Prep Tour Player of the Year honors in 2000, the Mountain Dew Junior Tour honors in 2002, and now the overall junior program honors in 2006.
Potter, a four-time All-State selection, led Penn High School to three state titles in the last four years. Her selection to the All-State team this season made her the only member of the team to be named All-State for the fourth-consecutive season. She was also a four-time All-Northern Indiana Conference selection and was the MVP of the NIC the past three years.
Potter tied for medalist at the Indiana State High School Finals in 2004 and received the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association Mitch Winger Courage Award for her comeback from career-threatening back surgery. She was the co-medalist in Regulation at the 2004 State Championship and was the medalist at the State Sectional Tournament.
The Mizzou women's golf team opens up the 2006-07 campaign with the Mason Rudolph Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 15-16.
