Women's Golf Continues to Shine this Summer

Columbia, Mo. - While it is still the offseason for Mizzou Women's Golf, the Tigers have not stopped competing. Four student-athletes, Taylor Gohn, Laura Kraft, Kate Gallagher and Alina Rogers, all participated in the Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship this week at Wedgewood Golf and Country Club in Powell, Ohio. Incoming freshman Kat Hepler is also on the course this week as she is competing in the PGA Junior Championship.

Hepler is currently sitting in a tie for 24th in the PGA Junior Championship, which is being held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. Hepler is currently in playing the fourth and final round of the tournament with a total score of 8-over-par. She came out strong in her second round of play as she scored a 70 (-2) after finishing the first round 6-over-par. She carded a 75 in the third round of play as well. Also this week, Gohn and Kraft placed 20th in the Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship while Gallagher and Rogers finished right behind them in a tie for 21st. The 54-team tournament field is comprised of players from all levels of collegiate golf including Division I, II and III programs. The teams followed an alternate shot format on the first day of play followed by a best ball format on the second day. The third day of play was scored using an aggregate score of the two players.

Gohn and Kraft finished 13-over-par, improving their game throughout the tournament. The two started off the tournament with a 10-over-par first round score, but came back to finish 7-under-par on the second day. The two combined for a 154 in the final round.


 

 

Gallagher and Rogers also stepped up to the plate in the final rounds as they started off with an opening round score of 88 (+16). The two finished just 1-over-par in the second round and combined for a 143 in the third round of play to close the tournament just 16-over-par in a tie for 21st place.
